In Summer 2021, the National Association of Realtors® surveyed its members pertaining to sustainability issues facing the industry. Among the findings:
- 37% of Realtors® said buildings with green certifications had increased commercial property value
- The building features Realtors® believed were most important to clients included utility and operations costs, indoor air quality, efficient use of lighting and windows
- 18% of respondents reported that their Commercial Information Exchange (CIE) had green data fields; 33% said their CIE does not have green data fields
- Among the respondents who did have CIE green data fields, 51% reported they do not use the fields
- 69% of respondents said that energy efficiency promotion in listings was very or somewhat valuable
- 37% of brokerages had experience working with commercial building repurposing, such as converting empty malls into technical schools
