Susan Dioury, MNR’s Senior Vice President of Risk Management & Legal Counsel, Departs Association After Years of Dedicated Service
23 years ago, Dioury joined the association as vice president of government relations & regulatory affairs. In that role, and later as chief lobbyist, she worked tirelessly at the state legislature, protecting real property rights and advocating for Realtors® and homeowners.

In 2008, Dioury stepped away for a career break—but not because she intended to slow down. She went back to school to get her law degree. In 2012, she graduated from the Mitchell Hamline School of Law with her JD, at which point she would have been poised to take her professional skills wherever she chose. But MNR knew Dioury was well-suited to build and lead a burgeoning Risk Management department. In an industry which was beginning to pick up steam after the housing crash of 2008 and the recession that followed, this would become a key role. Looking back, this was no small feat given where the industry as a whole has been in the last decade.

Dioury agreed, and in 2012 came back to the association, this time as senior vice president of risk management/legal counsel. The 11 years since—along with the eight that preceded her stepping away for law school—contain far too many accolades to fully expound upon here. Nonetheless, Dioury’s positive impact on the real estate industry is experienced, even if unknowingly, by every Minnesota Realtor® on a daily basis.
Here are merely a few things MNR implemented during Dioury’s tenure:
  • Creation of The Legal Hotlineexclusive MNR service that offers expert insights pertaining to real estate law, available to member-brokers statewide

  • Creation and management of all real estate Forms/Contracts—both residential and commercial, which are the bedrock of real estate transactions in Minnesota, used millions of times year-over-year by Realtors®

  • Creation and management of the Legal Defense Fundenables MNR to weigh in on significant real estate-related court cases which would impact the industry

  • Managed MNR’s arbitration process, enabling members and/or consumers to resolve disputes outside the court of law, saving real estate professionals thousands of dollars

    • This included the creation of the Buyer/Seller arbitration process, which helps consumers resolve disputes outside the court of law

  • Implemented and taught critical continuing education courses pertaining to the Code of Ethics, Broker Management, Forms/Contracts, and more

It’s not an overstatement to say that Dioury devoted her career to the association. She worked relentlessly to make Minnesota’s real estate industry a fair, just, equitable market. Minnesota Realtors® everywhere are better off because of her service,” said Minnesota Realtors® CEO Josh McFall.

From all of us: Thank you, Susan. You will be missed.

What select MNR colleagues had to say about working with Dioury

“I had the distinct honor and pleasure to work for and with Susan over the last 10 years. It’s hard to put into words what she has meant both to me and the association. Susan was so knowledgeable and helpful to the staff and the members and cared so very deeply for everyone’s wellbeing. While she was often the smartest one in the room, she never made anyone feel inferior or undervalued. Susan was as likely to make coffee for someone else’s meeting as she was to construct and negotiate huge contracts for the association and its members. She will be deeply missed, and I wish her the very best in all her future endeavors.”

Jon Kopecky, Associate Legal Counsel and Professional Standards Director
