MNR Survey Uncovers Career Shifts Amidst Pandemic

MINNEAPOLIS (Dec. 3, 2020) – A rapidly growing number of people are entering the real estate profession since August according to Minnesota Realtors®, the organization that licenses Realtors in the state. Most recently, newly licensed Realtors were up 82% year over year.

“The real estate market is booming, and demand for Realtor services is high,” said Chris Galler, CEO of Minnesota Realtors. “In the midst of the pandemic and an uncertain economy, a rapid influx of new Realtors see an opportunity to have a flexible career in a growing sector of the economy.”

Last month, Minnesota Realtors surveyed 125 newly licensed Realtors about their plans for entering the profession in 2020.

  • More than half said they always wanted to become a realtor and are finally doing it.
  • 70% of new Realtors plan to work full time in the real estate industry.
  • More than 70% are located in the Twin Cities metro area, 10% in the Rochester metro area, and the remaining spread across the state.

“We are seeing people from other industries joining the real estate profession for the first time,” Galler said. “This is good news for buyers and sellers. These are people who have always wanted to be a Realtor and will provide fresh energy in a high demand real estate market.”
