Having a good headshot is the first step in Realtor® marketing 101. And whether it’s for a billboard or for your website, it’s important to have a high-quality photo.

First and foremost, a headshot is your first chance to make a good impression with your clients. It might seem like a small detail, but it shows that you take yourself, your job, and career seriously, and having a clear, well-branded photo is the key to that first impression.

Having a quality headshot is a quick and pretty easy way to get ahead of the pack.

Here are some tips for making sure you’re taking advantage of your headshot:

Make sure it’s the best resolution.

Having your headshot ready is important. For instance, if a guest on a panel discussion - you will need to provide a headshot for their promotional materials. Or if your local Realtor® association is highlighting you on social media, having a high resolution photo will make you stand out as professional. Having a high-quality headshot also shows you think ahead and are prepared for even the smallest of tasks - and, bonus points, it’ll make that classic bus stop bench graphic look a lot better.

TIP: Keep an original, high-resolution headshot ready and available so when one is requested, you can be sure you will always look your best.

Update your photo periodically.

Having a current photo will tell a clear story about the type of business you represent. Your headshot is meant to show off your personal brand and business. Don’t let a blurry, outdated, or 15 year old photo be the focal point and what clients remember.

Tip: Update your photo every 3-4 years.

Use it!

Take advantage of your professional headshots! Put those high-resolution photos on your social media, especially your Facebook page & LinkedIn profile. In a world dominated by social media and the internet, not having a good photo can be a big mistake. When people search your name, what comes up? What social photos can people see on your profiles? Tip:

Periodically do a Google image search of your name. This is often what your potential client will see.
