Black History MonthA Call for Realtors® to Join NAREB in the Democracy in Housing Movement

Black History Month celebrates the history and accomplishments of the African American community. During this time, we honor the work of countless individuals and groups that are working to ensure equality and civil rights - including the right to fair housing.

One organization fighting for an equitable future in housing is the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB).

Founded in 1947, NAREB is an equal opportunity and civil rights advocacy group for Black real estate professionals, consumers and communities. With roots in the 19th century struggle for “democracy in housing,” NAREB continues that work today, striving for equal housing opportunities for all.

Though Realtors® subscribe to a code of ethics that sets a higher standard for fairness in housing than any federal law, there is still considerable work to do - and it’s going to take all of us. Each of us must become community leaders in order to create real change.

As NAREB President Donnell Williams said: “If you want to make an impact on creating change, it really does start with you. You can make a difference.”
