Bringing the Outdoors In: Home Color Trends for Fall

Autumn is well-loved for its stunning colors. As summer drifts into fall and the leaves turn from green to gold, bring the beauty of the season indoors with a fresh, yet cozy, palette. Season-inspired colors can infuse your home with warmth and a sense of comfortable elegance, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Here are some color trends you can use to transform your space and make this brief, but beautiful season last a little longer.

Earthy Greens:

We’re saying goodbye to summer, but green is here to stay. Consider replacing warm weather’s lush, bright greens with more muted tones like olive and sage. These earthy greens are associated with healing and growth and tend to have a balancing effect, and they pair well with down-to-earth natural wood accents. Add an olive-green rug to your space and opt for a wooden coffee table or shelving in a natural finish for an organic feel. Create a gallery wall with nature-inspired prints that feature sage green tones for a calming touch.

Warm Terracottas:

If you’re looking forward to the coziness of fall but aren’t quite ready to give up on summer, consider incorporating terracotta in your spaces. This color brings a warmth we often associate with fall, but its orange tones emphasize a feeling of joy. Terracotta also has the added benefit of promoting a connection to nature; spending time in rooms with this color can foster a sense of grounding. Try painting a home office this shade to create an energizing workspace. To keep the look balanced, combine terracotta with neutral shades like beige or cream.

Bold Mustards:

Embrace fall and pay homage to the summer sun with mustard yellow. This muted yellow is optimistic in nature while maintaining a warm tone. A mustard yellow accent wall can stimulate creativity in a home office or craft room. In the living room, create a positive gathering space with a mustard yellow accent chair. Or try adding a pop of color to a decorative shelf with mustard yellow accessories. If you’re looking to add contrast to a room, try pairing mustard with navy blue.

Deep Blues:

Add depth and sophistication to your home this season with deep blues. A color like navy blue creates an environment that feels secure and relaxing in a stylish manner. Because it’s often the focal point in a bedroom, opting for a navy blue bedspread is a simple way to create a calming but sophisticated

atmosphere. In a dining room, add a navy-blue runner to the table and top it with gold or brass accents as a finishing touch to add a sense of glamour.

Rich Burgundy:

Burgundy is a quintessential fall color, reminiscent of the changing leaves, that's often associated with sophistication and luxury. Embrace this color’s bold nature in a living room with a velvet burgundy sofa or an accent wall that draws the eye. In the right setting, burgundy can inspire introspection. Try repainting bookshelves or go for a burgundy desk chair in a home library or office. This color is extremely versatile, so whatever your style, adding burgundy into your home is a simple way to get fall ready.

Soft Neutrals:

Soft neutrals like taupe, beige, and ivory can enhance and balance falls bold colors. If your home is already painted with soft neutrals, you have the perfect canvas to experiment with accessories, decor, and accents in some of the richer trending colors. If you want to make a big statement and feature bold autumn colors in your home, neutral rugs, throws, and decor will help you achieve a more balanced effect.
