Governor Walz/MN State Updates

  • Lost Wages Assistance Program (LWA): LWA is a short-term emergency program that provides an additional $300 per week to most UI applicants who are unemployed due to COVID-19. Read more here.
  • COVID-19 Housing Assistance Program: This program provides housing assistance payments to help prevent eviction, prevent homelessness, and maintain housing stability for eligible renters and homeowners. Read more here.
  • 7/22: EO 20-81: Mask Mandate
  • Unemployment Alert: $600 additional federal payment through the CARES Act ends in July unless the program is extended by the federal government. The last week that federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) may be paid in Minnesota is the week ending July 25, 2020. Access the alert here.

  • Minnesota Small Business Relief Grants: This program will make available $10,000 grants to Minnesotan owned and operated businesses that can demonstrate financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. Access the application here, and apply by July 2nd!
  • For Businesses: Safely Returning to Work: Governor Walz and state agencies are working together to gradually allow more businesses to reopen, serve customers, and safely return Minnesotans to work. View updates on DEED's site here.
  • Executive Order Update: On May 13, Governor Walz issued Executive Order 20-54, which provides more clarity on worker protections in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Guide for Small Businesses: View this guide on the DEED website to see all the programs available now to businesses.
  • MNSure: 30-day special enrollment period (SEP) for qualified individuals who are currently without insurance. The SEP opened on March 23 and runs through April 21 through
  • Small Business Assistance: The program administered by the Department of Employment and Economic Development will help Minnesota small business owners who need immediate assistance during COVID-19 closures.
  • Deadline extensions: Minnesotans filing their state annual Individual Income Tax return have until July 15, 2020 to file and make payments. The deadline to apply for the REAL ID has also been pushed back by one year.
  • Suspension of evictions: Landlords and financial institutions cannot begin eviction proceedings that would remove tenants from stable housing during the COVID-19 pandemic.   • Unemployment Insurance: The Governor expanded the state's unemployment insurance program, which can provide quick relief for employees who are unable to work as a result of COVID-19.
