Breaking Ice

June 14, 2-4 PM (No CE) | Cost: Pay What You Want (or Free)

The MNR Diversity Committee is excited to offer this award-winning performance by The Pillsbury House + Theater. Actors portray real-life situations that “break the ice” for productive dialogue around diversity, equity, and inclusion. Explore how systemic inequities, implicit bias, and common misperceptions show up in our relationships.

Following the performance, facilitators will lead the group in a reflective discussion to deepen awareness and practice exploring the tough stuff together. Outcomes of the performance include:

  • Change how we engage with each other
  • Foster a greater awareness of ourselves and others
  • Become more aware of our implicit biases
  • View equity, diversity, and inclusion as an ongoing practice
  • Experience vulnerable, courageous conversation
  • Practice generating concrete, practical actions to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion

Pathway to Achievement

https://www.mnrealtor.com/member-services/benefits/pathway-achievement
MNR’s Pathway to Achievement Program forges an alliance between the recipient, the sponsoring broker, the local association, and Minnesota Realtors® (MNR). Candidates must be a person not in Minnesota's racial majority and demonstrate a commitment to becoming a successful real estate licensee and Realtor®. The sponsoring broker provides a mentor and in-house training for the program recipient to optimize the success of the new licensee. Ideally, the candidate is a new licensee who has not had a license for more than six months and who is aspiring to become a full-time salesperson. The program is intended to provide startup assistance to candidates who have not previously held a real estate license.

This program covers Realtor® association dues for the first year of membership and up to six months of MLS and lockbox fees. The program also covers specified educational and networking opportunities. The total value of the program is up to $1,600, and applications will be accepted starting in July 2021.

Downpayment Assistance Research

MNR has partnered with the Minnesota Homeownership Center to launch the Minnesota Downpayment Assistance Research Project. Our goals were to identify ways we can remove barriers facing homebuyers with limited savings and make progress on reducing the racial homeownership gap. Ultimately this research is intended to help us explore opportunities for improving policies and programs for downpayment assistance (DPA).

NAR's Bias Override Workshop

NAR and the Perception Institute present this online workshop to help members avoid implicit bias in their daily business interactions. The workshop explains how our brains’ automatic, instant association of stereotypes with particular groups can cause us to treat those who are different from us unfairly.

Implicit Bias Test

Test your bias by taking one of the many Implicit Bias Tests from Project Implicit. You can test your bias on race, gender, sexuality, age, and many other areas.
